Dravyaguna
Dravyaguna is the science of Dravyas and their gunas. The subject is one of the major parts of the Ayurvedic Medical system i.e. the ancient science of life and primarily deals with the substances having medicinal potential.
Dravyaguna also elucidate the importance of ahaar in chikitsa i.e. importance of food in the treatment.
“The Department of Dravyaguna is supported by a well-established museum containing all essential equipment and more than 100 herbal medicinal samples, which aids in practical teaching and student training.”
The plants/herbs have played major part in the pharmaco therapy during the vedic period in India. Vedic literature indicates mainly about the utility of single herbs in the management of common diseases.
In Modern Ayurvedic education, Dravyaguna serves as a bridge between classical wisdom and contemporary science. Students are trained to correlate traditional concepts with modern pharmacognosy, phytochemistry and pharmacology
Practical training in medicinal plant gardens, raw drug identification and formulation analysis enhances clinical competence and research aptitude.
At our Ayurvedic Medical College, Dravyaguna Vigyan is taught in the second professional year subject is of 400 marks and 400 lecture hours in the form of paper I (Fundamental Dravyaguna) and paper II (Applied Dravyaguna)
