AGAD TANTRA & VYAVHARA AYURVEDA

Agada Tantra evam Vidhi Vaidyaka is the specialized branch of Ayurveda that deals with the study, Identification, Prevention, and management of Poisons, along with the principles of Medical Ethics, Legal responsibilities, and Forensic applications relevant to medical practice. This discipline represents the Ayurvedic perspective of Toxicology and Medical jurisprudence, integrating clinical management with legal awareness.

Agada Tantra (Ayurvedic Toxicology) focuses on Visha Chikitsa- the science of poisons. Ayurveda recognizes that poisons may originate from natural, artificial, or accidental sources and classifies them systematically viz.

  • Sthavara Visha: Poisons of Plant and Mineral origin
  • Jangama Visha: Poisons of animal origin (Snake, Scorpion, Spider, Insect bites)
  • Kritrima Visha: Artificial or Compound poisons
  • Dooshi Visha: Latent or Cumulative toxins retained in the body
It emphasizes on Recognition of poisoning signs and symptoms, Emergency management, use of Agada Yogas (Antidote formulations), Management of Envenomation, Food poisoning, Drug toxicity, and Environmental toxins, and Dooshi Visha, which conceptually correlates with Chronic toxicity, cumulative drug toxicity, and long-term exposure to pollutants

Vidhi Vaidyaka (Medical Jurisprudence and Ethics)deals with the Legal and Ethical responsibilities of a physician, ensuring that medical practice is conducted within ethical, professional, and legal boundaries. Components of Vidhi Vaidyaka comprises Duties and conduct of a physician (Vaidya Vrtta), Consent, confidentiality, and professional accountability, Legal aspects of medical practice, Examination and certification of injury, illness, and death and Medico-legal case (MLC) documentation

Agada Tantra & Vidhi Vaidyaka provides a holistic, preventive, and therapeutic framework for managing both acute and chronic toxicity. It bridges Ayurveda to Emergency medicine, Toxicology, Ethics, and law.
