Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana

The Department of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana (RSBK) at Rajshree Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital is a well-established unit dedicated to Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, with a strong emphasis on Classical authenticity, Scientific rigor, and Translational applicability. The department plays a pivotal role in imparting Foundational and Applied pharmaceutical knowledge to BAMS students, enabling them to Understand, Prepare, Evaluate, and Rationally use Ayurvedic medicines.

A. Academic Resources and Teaching Aids

The department houses an extensive and well-curated collection of more than 80 Mineral and Metallic raw drug samples, encompassing Maharasa, Uparasa, Sadharana Rasa, Ratna (precious gems and stones), Lavana (salts), and Dhatu (metals). These authenticated specimens facilitate hands-on identification and conceptual clarity in Rasa Shastra for the students.In addition, the department maintains over 94 Herbal raw drug samples of Medicinal Plants, systematically arranged for Pharmacognostic identification&learning, strengthening student’s familiarity with raw materials used in Ayurvedic formulations.

To enhance conceptual understanding, the department has displayedmore than 50 Scientific charts, Models, and Flow diagrams illustrating key principles and procedures of Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, including Shodhana (Biological purification and processing techniques), Marana (Incineration and calcination), Ayurvedic dosage forms, Mana Paribhasha (Classical weights and measurements), and Pathya Kalpana (Nutraceutical and dietary formulations). These visual aids significantly reinforce theory–practical integration.

B. Practical Training and Demonstrations

Regular practical demonstrations and procedures are conducted to familiarize students with classical processing techniques&principles of Ayurveda. These activities are designed to translate theoretical concepts into real-life applicability, fostering analytical thinking and skill development. The department emphasizes hands-on learning, enabling students to appreciate the Rationale, Precautions, and Therapeutic relevance of pharmaceutical processes.

C. Manufacturing Pharmacy and Industry-Oriented Exposure

The department is supported by its own manufacturing pharmacy, equipped with essential pharmaceutical instruments such as Pulverizer, Disintegrator, End-runner, Edge-runner, Tablet punching machine, and related utilities. This facility provides students with Practical, Industry-oriented exposure to Ayurvedic drug manufacturing under academic supervision.A wide range of Classical Formulations are routinely prepared, including Agnimukha Churna, ShaktivardhakChurna, TriphalaChurna, Chitrakadi Vati, GandhakMalahara, Tankana Bhasma, Chyawanprasha, Vasa Avaleha, Kushmanda Avaleha, Dashmula Taila, and Bala Taila.

D. Quality Control and Public Health Initiatives

The department is further strengthened by a dedicated quality control laboratory, ensuring the quality, safety, and consistency of finished formulations through systematic evaluation.

Beyond academics, the department actively participates in public health awareness and outreach programs. Season-specific therapeutic and preventive formulations such asChinchaPanaka, Kharjuradi Mantha, Dhanyaka Hima, and Ayush Kwathaare prepared and distributed to the general public and patients, promoting Seasonal health adaptation, Immunity enhancement, and Prevention of common ailments.
