It can be traced back to the ‘University Corps’, which was created under the Indian Defence Act 1917, with the objective to make up for the shortage in the Army.

National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces with its headquarters in New Delhi, India. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis as a Tri-Services Organisation, comprising The Army, The Navy and The Air Wing, engaged in developing the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens.

The Emblem of NCC consist of 3 colours; Red, Dark Blue and Light Blue. These colours indicate Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Airforce respectively. The 17 Lotus indicates the 17 directories of India

The revised NCC syllabus laid greater stress on developing qualities of leadership and officer like qualities. The military training which the NCC cadets received was reduced and greater importance was given to social service and youth management.

The MOTTO of NCC is “Unity and Discipline”. NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of the nation, bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of the country and moulding them into united and disciplined citizens of the nation.

The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spiritof adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose.
